Thalapothichil
SERVICES
Thalapothichil is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy that originated in India and is still practised as part of Ayurvedic healing practices. It is a form of head massage that involves the application of a medicinal paste on the scalp, followed by wrapping the head with banana leaves or cloth. The term “Thalapothichil” is derived from the Malayalam language, where “Thala” means head and “Pothi” means covering. The therapy is also known as “Shiro Pichu” in Sanskrit. The paste used during Thalapothichil is made from a combination of herbal powders, oils, and other natural ingredients that are chosen based on an individual’s Ayurvedic body type or dosha, as well as any specific health concerns they may have.
The therapy begins with a relaxing head massage using warm herbal oil to help soothe and nourish the scalp and hair. The paste is then applied to the scalp, starting from the front and working towards the back of the head. The paste is usually applied in layers to ensure that the entire scalp is covered evenly. Once the paste has been applied, the head is wrapped with banana leaves or cloth to allow the paste to penetrate deeply into the scalp and hair follicles. The head is then left wrapped for a period of time, usually around 30 minutes to an hour. After the designated time, the wrap is removed, and the paste is washed off using warm water. The hair and scalp are then gently dried with a towel.
Thalapothichil Ayurvedic treatment is believed to have numerous benefits for the scalp and hair, as well as for overall health and well-being. The therapy is believed to help nourish and strengthen the hair, promoting healthy growth and preventing hair loss. The therapy is thought to help calm the mind, reduce stress and anxiety, and promote relaxation and inner peace. The use of warm herbal oil and gentle massage movements can have a grounding and nurturing effect on the mind and body. In many instances, this treatment has been found to be effective in curing various neurological and brain-related disorders too.
