Elakizi Treatment

Kizhi is a massage therapy that is utilised to address issues related to muscles, bones, and joints. Elakizhi treatment, (“ela” refers to leaves and “kizhi” signifies a bolus or potli), involves using leaves fried in herbal oil and bound in a linen cloth to create a potli. This potli is then used during the massage, along with natural herbal ingredients, to provide effective relief. Elakizhi is commonly considered a part of Panchakarma treatment and is known for its vata-optimizing properties, utilising leaves from various plants. These leaves are used to create a dense bolus or potli. The Elakizhi treatment has gained popularity due to its perceived safety and efficacy in recent times.

During the Elakizhi massage, the practitioner utilizes leaves that have been fried in herbal oils. These leaves are then carefully tied into a linen cloth to create a pouch or bolus, which is used for the massage. Additionally, medicated oils such as Murivenna oil, karpooradi oil, sahacharadi oil, or dhanwantharam thailam may be used during the massage, depending on the specific health concerns of the individual. The choice of oil is tailored to the unique needs of the person receiving the treatment.

Elakizhi Ayurvedic treatment is renowned for its potential to alleviate back pain and eliminate toxins from the body. It is believed to be effective in managing health issues like arthritis, spondylitis, back pain, sports injuries, and other soft tissue inflammations, particularly joint pains. The massage technique utilized in Elakizhi promotes improved blood circulation and perspiration, which can facilitate the detoxification process.
